Curriculum for Earning the ENS Paris-Saclay Degree
First Year: Bachelor’s Degree (L3)
You are enrolled in the Computer Science Department.
You will be pursuing the third year of the Dual Degree Bachelor’s Program in Computer Science and Mathematics at Paris-Saclay University, in one of the two tracks specific to ENS students: the “ENS Computer Science” track (for civil servants or students) or the “ENS Mathematics and Computer Science” track (civil servants only). You will be required to complete additional coursework for an enhanced program of study as part of the ENS Paris-Saclay degree. This year concludes with a 6-week research internship in a research laboratory outside the Île-de-France region.
You may also fulfill certain requirements for the degree, such as interdisciplinary conferences, a teaching activity (tutoring, knowledge dissemination, etc.), a community engagement activity, or a TEDS certification... For more information, visit the program page.
In the 2nd year: Master’s 1 (M1) year
During this intensive year of study, you are enrolled in the M1 program at Parisian Master’s in Computer Science Research (MPRI) at ENS Paris-Saclay. You will be required to complete additional coursework for an enhanced program as part of the ENS Paris-Saclay degree. This year concludes with a research internship lasting at least 4 months, which must be completed abroad.
You may also earn credit for certain program activities, such as interdisciplinary conferences, a teaching activity (tutoring, knowledge dissemination, etc.), a community engagement activity, or a TEDS certification... For more information, visit the program page.
During this second year, you will submit a study proposal online—which will be discussed with your department—outlining what you will do during your subsequent years at ENS Paris-Saclay.
In the 3rd and 4th years
You must complete a research-oriented Master’s 2 program and a specific year of training.
Your Master’s 2
You must choose a research-oriented Master’s 2 in computer science to complete your disciplinary training before the thesis. By default, you are admitted to the second year of the MPRI Master’s program. Other Master’s programs are available upon application, after your study plan has been approved by your department, for example:
- other tracks within the Master’s in Computer Science Research at Paris-Saclay University,
- Master’s in Mathematics, Vision, and Learning
- IASD Master’s: Artificial Intelligence, Systems, Data
- Master’s in Computer Science, “Software Science and Technology” track
A specialized one-year program
Depending on the career plan you define in your second year with your academic advisor, you must choose a one-year (or two-year in some cases) specialized track during your third or fourth year of study.
You have the choice between:
- The Research and Higher Education track, which prepares you for the agrégation in computer science or, subject to approval of your plan, for the agrégation in mathematics.
- The Research and International Studies track, which leads to a year of research abroad (ARPE).
- The Interface track, where you must complete
- either a degree-granting year (L3/M1/M2) in another discipline. This discipline cannot be mathematics for ENS students who followed the Computer Science-Mathematics track in L3,
- or a dual degree with another institution (subject to acceptance of your study plan and application by the target institution).
- The Thematic Research tracks: artificial intelligence (ARIA), quantum technologies (ARTeQ), Sciences for Ecological Transitions (AREco), art and science (ARRC), and École Normale engagement (ASPEN).
One-Year Training Programs
If you are currently a student at another institution, you may enroll in the Computer Science Department for a single year of study without being enrolled in the ENS Paris-Saclay degree program. This is possible if your application is accepted for the following programs:
